The 930 Project Part 1: From Germany to Singapore - A Journey in Leather, Tartan, and Precision

Jamie Ong
When it comes to restoring rare cars, few understand the language of craftsmanship like Weinkath Automotive. Their latest collaboration with Auto Icons on the Singapore-delivered Porsche 930 Turbo is a masterclass in bespoke interior design - captured beautifully in a new video that chronicles the journey from Germany to Singapore.
Tailor-Made Excellence
For this 930, every choice was deliberate. Working alongside Colin Chow of Auto Icons and the car’s owner, Weinkath developed a design concept that respected the car’s original spirit while elevating it into something singular.
From the very start, the bold decision was made to embrace the car’s legacy: a complete redesign of the Porsche 930 interior in green leather paired with the original Mackenzie Tartan. Alternative ideas - like the modern Pasha pattern - were considered, but the team returned time and again to what felt right: a contemporary nod to Porsche’s heritage, executed with the precision only Weinkath can deliver.
Crafted by Hand, Built to Last
The video offers a rare glimpse behind the curtain: every panel, stitch, and trim piece was meticulously handcrafted. As Gerritt Weinkath explains,
“As you can see, it’s all handcrafted.”
The leather is cut, shaped, and stitched by hand; the carpet and tartan are perfectly aligned to create a harmonious, tactile experience that pays homage to the 930 Turbo’s storied past.
Once completed, the interior wasn’t simply shipped - it was carefully packed in custom fit-packaged wooden crates, ensuring the parts would arrive in Singapore pristine and ready for final assembly. Weinkath Automotive even flew to Singapore to install some of the parts themselves as the car was being completely rebuilt by Auto Icons.
A Journey Halfway Around the World
The restoration begins in Germany, but the story continues in Singapore. The interior pieces travel thousands of miles, carrying the dedication and artistry of Weinkath’s atelier, ready to be integrated into the reborn 930 Turbo. It’s a testament to precision, planning, and respect for legacy: a bespoke interior that doesn’t just fit the car, it elevates it.
Why It Matters
For collectors, the 930 Turbo isn’t just a car - it’s an investment, a piece of automotive history, and an icon of an era. The attention to detail shown in this project - down to the choice of tartan and custom leatherwork - ensures this car was Turbo royalty reborn. Every stitch tells a story, every panel a chapter in the legacy of the 930.
As the story unfolds, one thing is clear: this is more than a restoration - it's a global collaboration of craft, vision, and passion. And the 930 Project is far from over. Follow the next chapter with Weinkath Automotive as the journey continues from Germany to Singapore, and the handover of the 930 Turbo moves forward in Part 2.
