There is an appealing contradiction at the heart of the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring. It is every bit a GT3 underneath, yet deliberately avoids shouting about it.
The latest 992.2 generation takes that idea a step further. While the GT3 remains one of Porsche’s most focused road cars, this latest iteration incorporates lessons from the limited-production 911 S/T, sharpening the experience where it arguably matters most, on the road.
At its heart remains the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six, an engine that has become increasingly special in an era dominated by turbocharging and electrification. In this example, it is paired with the six-speed manual gearbox, keeping the driver at the centre of the experience.
For the 992.2, Porsche shortened the final drive ratio by 8 percent, a change inspired by the 911 S/T. Together with revised chassis tuning influenced by the S/T, the result is a GT3 that feels more exploitable at road speeds, with closer gearing allowing the driver to experience more of that 9,000rpm flat-six without needing a circuit to appreciate it.
This particular GT3 Touring is finished in Oak Green Metallic Neo, a new colour that suits the Touring philosophy particularly well. Rich and understated, it gives the car presence without relying on the visual aggression normally associated with a GT3.
The specification continues that theme. It is equipped with Porsche’s new folding lightweight bucket seats, an important addition for this generation as they provide access to the optional rear seats. Front axle lift makes navigating ramps and car parks easier, while the Bose sound system adds another layer of everyday usability.
Subtle changes have also been made outside the factory specification. A Moshammer ducktail spoiler gives the rear a more traditional 911 profile, while gold BBS FI-R wheels provide a purposeful contrast against the Oak Green paintwork. Importantly, the original components have been retained, allowing the car to be returned to its factory configuration.
The car also remains under warranty with Porsche Singapore.
Perhaps that is what makes this particular GT3 Touring so compelling. It combines a naturally aspirated engine, manual gearbox and one of Porsche’s most accomplished modern chassis with a specification that makes it genuinely usable.
The GT3 Touring has never been about hiding what it is. Rather, it is about removing what it does not need. No fixed rear wing, no unnecessary theatre, just one of Porsche’s most focused driving experiences wrapped in a more restrained form.
And with the 992.2 borrowing some of the ingredients that made the S/T so celebrated, that formula may be more complete than ever.
