The “longhood” 911s remain the purest expression of the 911 idea. They represent the earliest and most elegant interpretation of the shape that would go on to define Porsche for generations. With their lightweight construction, mechanical simplicity and unmistakable styling, longhoods are widely regarded as the prettiest 911s of all, and their desirability continues to be reflected in today’s market.
This particular example, finished in its original Light Ivory, carries a documented history that makes it especially significant. It was ordered new on 15 July 1970 by Mr. Hellig, specified with a thoughtful list of factory options. These included:
  • Light Ivory paint
  • 5-speed manual gearbox
  • C17 South Africa equipment
  • 185 lap shoulder seat belts
  • 258 seat headrests
  • 400 forged alloy wheels in 6J x 15 specification
  • 432 long-range driving lights mounted above the bumper
  • 470 comfort kit.
The total price, including German sales tax, was 23,376.6 Deutsche Marks in 1970.
Although a 1970 model year car, it was imported to South Africa in 1971 when the original owner relocated. Impressively, the original invoice for the car has been preserved, adding an important layer of authenticity and provenance.
In 2022, the car was imported to Singapore with the assistance of Auto Icons, where it has since lived under two very caring ownerships. During this time, the car received a sympathetic restoration that respected both its originality and history. The exterior was refinished in its factory Light Ivory using the period correct 1K paint process, ensuring a finish that matches the texture and character of early Porsche paintwork.
Mechanically, the car benefited from an engine refresh, dry ice blasting of the chassis to preserve originality and structural clarity and the addition of a modern electric air-conditioning unit, making the car more usable in contemporary climates while retaining its classic spirit.
The result is a longhood 911 that feels honest, correct and beautifully preserved. Its specification, provenance and quality of recent care place it among the more desirable early 911Ts available.
Now offered exclusively through Auto Icons, this exceptionally pretty longhood 911 is ready for its next caretaker. It represents a rare opportunity to own a car that encapsulates the earliest, purest vision of the 911
